Award-winning author P. O’Connell Pearson—Patty is a former high school history teacher and history content specialist and a native of the Washington, DC, area. Always enthusiastic about sharing historical stories, she earned her MFA in writing for young people from Lesley University and now writes non-fiction history for ages ten and up. She has published four books with Simon and Schuster Books for Young Readers. The first, Fly Girls: The Daring American Women Pilots Who Helped Win WWII, is the story of the Women Airforce Service Pilots and their struggle to serve their country in its hour of need. Fly Girls has been recognized with the 2020 Grand Canyon Readers Award for Tween Nonfiction, and named a Best of 2018 by A Mighty Girl, Best of 2019 by Bank Street Books, and Best of Children’s Non-Fiction Books – History by Tutorful UK.
